China’s first high-energy synchrotron radiation light source fully adopts ABB digital distribution facilities

ABB ZEE600 Smart Energy Management Platform Improves Distribution Reliability and Energy Efficiency

In 2021, ABB successfully won the bid for the High Energy Synchrotron Radiation Light Source Project of the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It will provide 138 UniGear ZS1 air insulated switchgear, 318 MNS3.0 series low-voltage switchgear and ZEE600 smart energy management platform for the project, provide a highly reliable comprehensive power solution for this national key project, and realize the digital management of the distribution system.

The project of high-energy synchrotron radiation light source is undertaken by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It is one of the ten major science and technology infrastructure projects prioritized by the National Development and Reform Commission during the “13th Five Year Plan” period. The project is located in Huairou Science City, Beijing. The construction content includes accelerator, beam line and experimental station. The expected service life is 30 years or more, and the safety requirements for the power distribution system are strict. At the same time, users need to achieve intelligent management of distribution equipment and optimize energy use to achieve energy conservation and carbon reduction. The ABB ZEE600 smart energy management platform provides comprehensive power monitoring, control, and data management for the 11 distribution rooms of the project, which will effectively improve the reliability of the power supply and distribution system; At the same time, it will also assist users in load management and energy efficiency management on the demand side, greatly reducing the workload of user operation and maintenance.

According to the plan, the high-energy synchrotron radiation light source will be completed and put into use by the end of 2025. At present, ABB has completed the delivery of all medium and low voltage switchgear, the technical solution of the ZEE600 smart energy management platform has been determined, and ABB engineers have entered the site to conduct overall linkage debugging of the switchgear and ZEE600. It is expected that the power distribution facilities will complete the joint debugging work of all systems by December 2023.

ABB Electric China President Zhao Yongzhan said, “ABB is a global technology leader and is delighted to provide intelligent power management technology for China’s cutting-edge scientific devices. We will continue to promote technological innovation, combining digitalization and low-carbon technology, and providing efficient and reliable distribution infrastructure for China’s exploration and development in cutting-edge fields.
