ABB Electric Smart Power Asia Regional Manager Shi Shijie delivers opening speech

As a major energy consumer, the industrial sector plays a crucial role in the construction of new energy systems

In the 14th Five Year Plan report, the National Development and Reform Commission mentioned accelerating the clean substitution of fuel and raw materials, actively promoting the substitution of clean and low-carbon energy, industrial waste heat, and other alternatives. During the 2024 ABB Electrical Innovation Week, ABB held a Green Industry Forum with the theme of “Empowering Industrial Energy Substitution with Smart Distribution”. Focusing on the core topic of “Opportunities and Challenges of Industrial Energy Substitution”, industry experts were invited to discuss industry trends, smart energy optimization and other solutions, and jointly depict how the energy system can accelerate the transformation of the industrial sector towards cleanliness, low-carbon, safety, and efficiency under the drive of the dual carbon goals.

Sergio Silvestri, the head of ABB Electric’s Smart Power Asia region, proposed that China is at the world’s leading level in power industry technology, and the largest new energy industry also provides important support for China’s industrial energy replacement. With the support of China’s dual carbon strategy, we are expected to take the lead in achieving industrial energy replacement globally and provide strong support for the sustainable development of industry.

The key to industrial energy replacement is the re electrification based on clean energy, specifically in two aspects: clean energy and re electrification. The use of clean energy reduces carbon emissions, reduces the impact of energy use on the environment, and creates the foundation for re electrification. Re electrification is the use of electricity to replace heat, power, and electrochemistry, driven by electricity instead of steam. In this series of changes, numerous opportunities and challenges have emerged.

ABB is committed to optimizing smart energy to assist industrial energy substitution, helping customers solve the problem of new energy integration for industrial energy substitution, facilitating better utilization of new energy, and improving the effective consumption of new energy. Through ABB’s smart energy solutions, an industrial park integrating source, network, load, and storage is built. Establishing a pioneer in optimizing the use of energy through algorithms and planning, building demand side response, and building the cornerstone of a new energy system; In order to solve the large number of harmonics generated in the production process of new energy, ABB adds safety guarantees to the stable use of energy for industrial customers through AVC and SmartPQS, helping to smoothly implement industrial energy substitution. For the unstable power supply problem in the early stage of energy substitution, ABB TruOne dual power automatic transfer switch and SUE3000 fast power switching device ensure seamless switching in industrial production at different voltage levels; ABB Electric Services leverages digital technology to provide users with asset lifecycle management and intelligent and efficient operation and maintenance management, achieving predictable and sustainable distribution systems.

The ABB Xiamen Industrial Center’s “Zero Emission Vision” project is an important case of industrial energy substitution. The park has built an integrated architecture of dynamic and flexible regulation of source network load storage, achieving a 50% substitution rate for clean energy and reducing carbon emissions by 13400 tons annually. In addition, ABB has assisted Komatsu Machinery Manufacturing (Shandong) Co., Ltd. in establishing an intelligent operation and maintenance platform, improving power supply reliability, achieving effective peak shaving and valley filling, optimizing production energy consumption, and promoting efficiency and energy conservation. Approximately 2300 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be reduced annually, saving energy costs of approximately 2 million yuan per year.

At the roundtable forum, Xu Wenliang, Chief Electrical Engineer/Professor level Senior Engineer/Registered Electrical Engineer of National Energy Group/Shenhua Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., Xu Haizhen, Deputy General Manager of Intelligent Manufacturing Business Unit of MCC Southern Engineering Technology Co., Ltd., Geng Sen, Director of Power Department of Anhui Gujing Group Co., Ltd Experts such as Cao Jie, Product Market Manager of ABB Electric’s China Distribution System Industry, had a heated discussion on industrial energy substitution and sustainable development.
