Singapore – Boeing
COMAC touted its 737 Max aircraft as the “safest aircraft” and stated that China’s latest domestically produced jet aircraft, the COMAC C919, is similar to existing Airbus and Boeing products in the market.
Dave Schulte, General Manager of Commercial Marketing for Boeing Asia Pacific, admits that the 737 Max 9, which is currently facing air blowouts, is “the most watched aircraft in aviation history to date.”
However, he insists that this is “the safest plane today.”.
During a speech to the media during the Singapore Airshow break, Schulte stated that he and his family boarded the 737 Max plane last week and pointed out that the plane was “quite full.”.
Earlier this year, a Boeing 737 Max 9 operated by Alaska Airlines experienced a panel explosion during flight. During preliminary inspections, loose bolts were found, raising concerns about safety. In January, both Boeing aircraft orders and deliveries decreased.
On Wednesday, Boeing announced the replacement of the 737 Max project leader.
Boeing did not bring any commercial aircraft to the Singapore Airshow. On the contrary, it demonstrated its defensive capabilities, showcasing many fighter jets, including the B-52 Stratospheric Fortress, which will participate in the US Air Force air show.
The company also showcased the cockpit of its wide body 777X aircraft during the event, which is said to be the world’s largest twin engine jet aircraft. However, aircraft deliveries expected to begin in 2025 are plagued by delays.

Chinese competition is not yet imminent
At the Singapore Airshow, there were no Boeing commercial aircraft, and all attention was focused on Airbus aircraft
And China’s domestically produced jet airliner COMAC C919.
Industry experts suggest that the COMAC C919 may change Boeing and Airbus’s long-standing dual monopoly on the commercial aviation industry, but the aircraft is still in the early stages of entering competition.
Brendan Sobie of Sobie Aviation told CNBC, “It’s too early to determine whether COMAC can break the duopoly. We’re unlikely to see overseas orders for C919 in the short term.”
COMAC signed an agreement with China Xizang Airlines on Tuesday and sealed orders for 40 C919 and 10 ARJ21 aircraft.
On the same day, Henan Civil Aviation Development and Investment Group, supported by the Chinese government, also signed an agreement to purchase six COMAC ARJ21 aircraft.
The ARJ21 jet aircraft is a medium to short range turbofan aircraft that can fly short distances and is used for regional flights.

Comac has developed the narrow body C919 to compete with Boeing 737 and Airbus 320.
Boeing’s Schulte said, “This is an aircraft of similar size produced by Boeing and Airbus.” He added that Southeast Asian airlines may consider it. However, he warned that COMAC must also overcome supply disruptions similar to those faced by Boeing and Airbus.
“But what is certain is that this is an aircraft included in our long-term predictions,” Schultz said of the C919.
As the aviation industry gradually emerges from the impact of the pandemic, the increased production of Boeing and Airbus has put pressure on suppliers who find it difficult to meet the growing demand for components.
