Switch Usage


  Functional Description

The GE Ethernet/IONet switches ESWB comes in five versions (H1A through H5A) that differ in the types of fiberoptic ports they can include, such as none, multi-mode, or single-mode (longer distance) ports.

Depending on the hardware form (ESWA or ESWB) and the chosen DIN-rail mounting orientation, the ESWx switches can be DIN-rail mounted using one of three GE-certified DIN-rail mounting clips. The following table outlines the separate ordering of the clips. With each switch are mounting screws.

An input voltage sag, also known as a brownout, may cause the ESWB I/O Network (IONet) switch to incorrectly reboot and fail to re-establish communication with the system under certain conditions. If the ESWB switch experiences a brownout condition that reduces the input 28 V line below the minimum operating voltage but not completely to 0 V, the switch may not correctly reboot when the input voltage returns to above the minimum operating voltage.

If this happens, the ESWB LEDs will either stay solid, flash in sync, or scroll from one side to the other, and the switch will not reconnect. If the site experiences a brownout, check the LEDs on the front of the switch after the voltage returns and the IONet loses communication. If they are solid, flashing in sync, or scrolling, manually reboot the switch by cycling power.
